DO YOU HAVE A CONCERN ABOUT A COUNSELLOR?
The PEICA does not deal with complaints. These must be directed to the appropriate regulatory body for the individual(s) you have a complaint with.
The PEICA encourages the public who have concerns or questions about services rendered to first discuss the issues with the counsellor. Your counsellor will appreciate the opportunity to discuss any concerns or questions directly with you.
COMPLAINTS:
The public is invited to bring forward their concerns regarding Counselling Therapists (CT) in PEI here.
The public is invited to bring forward their concerns regarding Certified Canadian Counsellors (CCC) in PEI here.
CHOOSING A NON-REGULATED COUNSELLOR:
The PEICA understands the importance of the therapeutic alliance (the relationship one builds with their therapist). We believe that you have the right to choose to work with the therapist of your choice.
Counsellors who wish to be members of the PEICA must maintain either a CT or CCC designation. Some Counsellors or therapists may choose not to use this designation. If the counsellor or therapist you choose to work with does not hold the designation of Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) or Certified Counselling Therapist (CT), it is important to know that the CCTPEI and the CCPA will have no jurisdiction over complaints or issues that may occur during the course of the therapeutic alliance.
Therefore, if your therapist does not use the title of Counselling Therapist(CT) or Certified Canadian Counsellor(CCC) and is not a member of the CCTPEI or the CCPA, the PEICA strongly advises you to verify with your counsellor or therapist how you can raise a complaint should the need arise.
